History Revealed: Soeharto - Who is Suharto?

Kini, tahun 2015, dosen pembimbing saya di Taiwan bertanya: "Do you know Soeharto? I heard he did so many things to your country. I know it from the history book when I was a student. He is a very good president, isn't he?"
That is what the Taiwan school say about Soeharto. Well, he is pretty famous. "If you ask me, I think he was not that good. He did nepotism when he was a president."
Then, I read a book in the library with title International Business An Asian Perspective (Hill et al., 2012). The book tells a little about Soeharto:
Di tahun 1996, ketika Jenderal Besar TNI H.M. Soeharto memiliki jabatan sebagai Presiden, majalah TIME menggambarkan beliau sebagai sosok seorang professional kantoran dengan rambut hitam keriting, mata coklat, dan wajah terbuka dan innocent.
30 tahun kemudian, majalah TIME tersebut melacak $9 billion uang Soeharto yang ada di akun bank Swiss.
"It was just a part of the huge wealth amassed by the former President and his family; a fortune that included a $4-million penthouse in Singapore and a $12 million masnion in an exclusive neighborhood of Los Angeles, as well as a fleet of planes including a Boeing 747-200 jumbo jet, a DC-10, and a Boeing 737.
Suharto began his political career on a strong anticommunist platform, cleansing the nation of all traces of the previous Partai Komunis Indonesia (PKI), and ushering in a new era of development and prosperity. For many years, Indonesia was a paradigm of industrialization. Suharto centralized power and authority in the military but wielded that power to allow the privatization of Indonesia's valuable natural resources. Suharto also modified labor laws, making the investment in Indonesia much more attractive to multinationals. From 1980 to the mid-1990s, Indonesia's GDP rose at rate of about 6.5 percent per year.
However, the same tightly-controlled and well-net-worked systems that allowed Suharto to transform Indonesia was also the basis of a system of patronage, kickbacks, and corruption. Companies involved as agents, distributors, and importers int he overall business environment tended to be owned by family members and close friends, These businesses were often granted preferential contracts, some even holding monopolies on the distribution of major products such as petrochemicals. Indonesia's privatized natural resources, including real estate, became concentrated in the hands of Suharto's family and some of his close allies. Banks lent these family-owned ventures at ridiculously low interest rates, and would often forgo repayment.
The same regime that had brought about rapid economic development was now laying the foundation of deep-rooted corruption and patronage, so much so that it became a way of doing business in Indonesia. The World Bank once estimated that as much as 30 percent of Indonesia's development budget was lost -over a period of two decades- through widespread corruption throughout its civil service. Suharto himself was dubbed one of the most corrupted leaders in the worlds, with Transparency International estimating his personal plunder at anything between $15 billion to $35 billion.
The later part of Suharto's rule was also filled with accusations of human rights violations and other crimes arising from a 24-year occupation of East Timor by Indonesian forces.
Finally, after nearly 32 years in power, Suharto was forced to step down in 1998. The reason: the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 left more than half of Indonesia's population below the poverty line. The growth of Indoensia's Gross Domestic Product tell to indicate regression, with the rate at about -13 percent."
The history revealed.

Braga Culinary Night (IELTS Writing)

There is a new local tourist attraction in Bandung city called Braga Culinary Night, the first culinary district for people who love to hang out and try many kinds of tasty and delicious foods. The event was held for the first time in January 11, 2014 and will be held every Saturday night –starting from 7 pm to 1 am. The event is held in Baraga Street, one of the historical streets in Bandung – West Java. The street is closed from any vehicles and decorated with colorful flying umbrellas, benches, and tables with flowers. There are more than 45 vendors in Braga Culinary Night (BCN) who sells foods and drinks in various prices, starting from the lowest price until the highest price. There are 3 zones in BCN such as low-price zone, medium-price zone, and high-price zone. In low-price zone, we can find a lot of foods such as fried rice, fried banana, fried chicken, timbel set and soto. You can find sushi, Japanese food consisting of cooked vinegared rice, in medium-price zone, and steak, a cut of grilled; pan-fried; or sliced broiled beef, in high-price zone. Not only that, there are some music stages in some spots for visitors who want to enliven this event. if you want to go to BCN with your family or friends, don’t forget to bring umbrella – because it’s rainy season – and please get ready for the crowd! When I came there, even though it was raining and very crowded, my friends and I still had so much fun there. Well, the Braga Culinary Night is so interesting, you must come to this event!

Jamu (IELTS Writing)

Jamu, traditional medicine in Indonesia, is made from herbs such as sugar, mint, and turmeric. Jamu has been made since 700 Century in the Mataram Kingdom era. Technology has made contribution in giving Jamu's new forms such as powder, pills, capsules, or drinking liquid. Jamu is usually sold by women who carry it in a basket (jamu gendong), or in food stall. We can make Jamu by ourselves because the ingredients are easy to get, especially in tropical zone like Indonesia. The ingredients of Jamu depend on people's illness. For example, if you suffer constipation, you can make Jamu from ginger (Zingiber Officinale), Kencur (Kaempferia Galnga), pepper, Adas (Foenicoulum Vulgare Mill), and citrus. On the other hand, if you suffer problems in your menstruation cycles, you can make Jamu from Beluntas leaves (Pluchea Indica), turmeric, java coconut sugar, and sour tamarind - these can cool your body too. Each herb of Jamu's ingredient gives different benefits for your body. For example, Beras Kencur will reduce body ache and sour tamarind will reduce stomachache. There are many kinds of Jamu. You should choose Jamu which meets your needs.

Differences between Bugisnese and Sundanese foods

There are several differences between Bugisnese and Sundanese foods. Firstly, Bugisnese serve vegetables as side dish. On the other hand, Sundanese serve those as main course. For example, sometimes Sundanese will eat garnish in family gathering. Secondly, Bugisnese cakes are sweeter than Sundanese cakes. For example, Bugisnese dodols (Bajes) are sweeter than Sundanese dodols because Bugisnese add more sugar into their dodols (Bajes). Thirdly, Bugisnese tend to cool their main course by adding more coconut milk than Sundanese do. We think Sundanese foods are healthier than Bugisnese foods, but if you think Bugisnese foods are more delicious, you have to eat them proportionally.

How to Apply for a Job

Some of fresh graduates students still don't know how to apply for a suitable job, so here are the steps.
The first step is searching for job vacancies which offer work position that you want. You can do this by searching in websites, reading newspapers and attending job fairs. You have to find out the detailed information about the company and the offered position. However, make sure it is suitable for you.
The second step is making the application letter and curriculum vitae that illustrate your personal information, education, skills, and work experience. You can learn how to make this from books, the Internet, or friends experiences. You can insert your transcript, graduation certificate, photos, and certificates of achievements into your application folder.
The third step is sending your application by mail, e-mail, or coming directly to the company or job fair.
The fourth step is waiting for the interview invitation, and preparing yourself for the test. Sometimes it takes about two weeks. However, it can be longer or shorter. It depends on the company. Based on my experience when 1 applied for a job in Pertamina, they sent their invitation after i had waited for four months.
The fifth step is taking the test. There are 3 kinds of tests: psychotest, interview test, and physical test. You have to improve your logical skills such as arithmetic, algibre, and kraeplin. Read more about interview tips. The more tips you know the more confident you are. Then, don't forget to keep your body healthy or to watch your health and consume various nutritious foods for your stamina and concentration. So that you can face the interview and do physical test well.
The last step is signing the work contract. Make sure that you read the contract carefully. If you don't get the job that you apply in the company, don't worry because maybe this job isn't suitable for you. You can find another job vacancy that is more suitable for you.

How Procurement (Buyer Staff) Buy Items from Suppliers (IELTS Writing)

Buying items from suppliers require a few steps.

The first step is grouping the items that you want to buy, for example, machinery items, probes, and safety items.
The second step is making lists of suppliers for each group. There should be more than 5 suppliers in every list. You can see suppliers classifications - classifications of supplies based on their products- as your reference.
The third step is sending bidding invitations to the supplier and giving them the due date.
Two days before the due date, you have to remind them by sending an e-mail or making a phone call.
After five days, the next step is analyzing process and specifications of items which are listed on the quotations. You have to choose the successful supplier who gives the lowest price and has same qualifications with items that you need. Sometimes, the successful supplier can be more than one.
The last step is making the contract. At this step, you have to ask confirmations from the suppliers and user regarding the prices, delivery schedules, and specifications on draft contract. You have to make sure that the suppliers prices are lower than the budget and their qualifications are the same with what the user wants.
Please note that the user shouldn't know the names of suppliers and their prices. This is necessary to avoid some deceptions. If both agree with the draft contract, you can make the contract and send it to the suppliers. The task seems easy but it does require honesty and carefulness.

(simple example of basic IELTS Writing)

Nowadays, Korean music becomes popular in other countries, we can give several reasons for that. Firstly, they are creative in creating concepts. Each artist has her/his own characteristics. Secondly, the artists are good looking although they did plastic surgery to have a god look. Thirdly, they are very discipline in learning and practicing. Their performance are almost perfect. The last but not least, the Korea government supports them too to expand their entertainment industry to other countries. We can do the same things to increase popularity of Indonesian music industry.

Ballons are something made of rubber, latex, or plastic material, which have interesting colours and unique shapes. Balloons filled with a gas, such as oxgen, hydrogen, helium, or air. There are a lot of balloon’s kinds and functions, which are will be described on this essay.
Nowadays, balloons have a lot of kinds. For example, there are printing latex balloons, LED flashing balloons, inflatable balloons, gondola balloons, Zeppelin balloons (Remote Control balloons) and whistle balloons. Not only that, there are water balloons and hot air balloons. Water ballons are thin and small, filled with water and intended to be easily broken. While, hot air balloons are big, using air heated with hydrogen and can go to the athmosphere.
A lot of kinds of balloons make balloons have a lot of functions. Ballons are used as decorations in a lot of occasions, such as: wedding party and birthday party. Exaggerated statements

(picture from kimariyani.blogspot.com)
Since reformation era, mass media has the rights to give an opinion and to speak it out to the public. But there are a lot of exaggerated statements made by mass media who criticize the government. Of course, it is dangerous. Mass media shouldn’t make exaggerated statements about government for the reasons listed.

Exaggerated statements will make Indonesia’s image deteriorated in the eyes of foreigners, and it will cause bad effects to our nation and state. For example, in 2011, one of TV media made a statement that Indonesia was on its way to the failed state. After heard that there were a lot of  investors thought that Indonesia was messed up. They were being afraid to invest their money in Indonesia. However, we need that investment to increase our welfare of society.

Nowadays, mass media has been something which is very needed by the public. Mass media have some power to influence public’s opinion, and I think  there are several of mass medias which have been out of limit. They tend to influence public to have the same opinion. They did dramatization and made exaggerated statements which can cause misunderstanding between public and government.

On the other hand, they are people who agree if mass media do the exaggerated statements. They have their own interest about this, for example: to increase the rating of that mass  media and for politic’s purposes. In addition, the politic’s purposes can be such as: to promote their own politic’s party, to move the existing issues, to hit the government, and so on.

In conclusion, I don’t agree if mass media make exaggerated statements because it can cause bad effects, especially for the investor’s and public’s trust. The public should be able in assessing the truth. Media Massa has to obey Broadcast Laws and not only give the negative sides but also the positive sides of government.

JUST WRITE IT !

JUST WRITE IT!

I am writing this topic due to my interest in writing, furthermore with blogging. There is a lot of advantages and may be there are disadvantages when you write your stories or when you decide to make writing as one of your hobbies. I will write 5 things about writing.
Firstly, sometimes when somebody had trouble in expressing the heart feelings, when you being hesitate to share with your friends, or maybe when you feels there’s no one are suppose to know your story, or when you feels that you have no one to trust. You can just write it! Write it in your diary, blog or website. You can express your heart feelings and your experience about love, sad, disappointed, etc. You can write anything that you want, you can share it, and you can set your blog so nobody knows who you are.
Secondly, writing as a part of learning. For example, write your story in a foreign language. People who read your story, they can give comments for you, about your interesting story, about your boring story, or tells you that you have made some mistakes in grammar. If you are accustomed to writing in the foreign language, it will enhance your writing ability and improve your grammar knowledge.
Thirdly, if you have blog or website which has high visit statistic, you can earn money from that. It’s because of the  advertisements. Or maybe if you have interesting stories and you made it as a book, you can earn money from that too.
Fourthly, the benefit is not only for the writer but also for the reader. The story can help us to understand the world. Story teach us what may happen. The story tells us about people who survive and it will give us motivation. The story can be one of learning media.
Fifthly, there is a lot of popular writers who suicide. I don’t know exactly why. The reason why they kill their self still a mystery until now. Maybe because they got stress when they had been being a writer as their job, they forced to finish their story in short time. In spite of that inspiration flow by itself and sometimes we can’t force it. When the writers write the story, they need to concentrate and they will avoid their social environment (it will make their self more oppressed).
I think it would be fun if we start to write our own story (as long as it does not make a distance with our friends or our social environment). Not only write your story, but also your experience and your knowledge. You can publish and share it. I think it’s also a good thing if you have something in which you are skillful, and you share it with other people to enrich what you already have in yourself. Just write it!

DIPO ALAM

Dipo Alam made a statement in front of the press, that he asked the government to not place the advertisement in mass media which always criticizing the government and showing demonstration pictures with narration "Indonesia is on its way to being a failed state."

Since the first time I heard this news, until today, my opinion has never changed. I agree with Dipo Alam's statement.

Firstly, Since Surya Palloh built a new party and wanted to be a President, Metro TV has been not independent Sometimes, the shows at Metro TV is turned for party's show. Which, of course, to promote his party.

Secondly, I think Dipo's statement is OK. It's only natural that Dipo made that statement because the statement was made by his own self (personally), not as a secretary cabinet.

Thirdly, on the Internet, there were a lot of Media Indonesia's articles which have the impression: Dipo Alam as Media Group's enemy. There were a lot of rude comments for Dipo Alam. I was being curious. Then, I left a comment in an article Media Indonesia. And the result: My comment won't be published before MI staff confirmed it.
So, it's clear!
They won't confirmed the comments which on Dipo's side. That's why no comment on Dipo's side.
Not only that, Metro TV has made running text about Dipo Alam. The running text had been showing for a few days. They should have obeyed UU Penyiaran. Metro TV as a press. Press has the power to influencing people. Besides that, Dipo has no tool to balance it.

Fourthly, Media interested in showing controversial news only. Meanwhile, the positive things didn't raise up. Opinion, emotion, and attitude of media sometimes aren't neutral in digging the fact. I worry if there is media power centralization by politicians and entrepreneurs.

In conclusion, I agree with Dipo Alam's statement, for the reason listed!

my first speech ,, ohoho,, klas 2 SMP,,

Assalamualaikum Wr.Wb

Our teachers, all the staff and the commitees in SLTPN 17 Bandung who I respects. And also the colleagues and the student SLTPN 17 Bandung who I loves.
The first and the main. of course let's thanks to God, because today we have been given long age to meet each other in this forum.

     Ladies and gentlemen,

In this opportunity, I will talk about Bandung's condition now. We have been living in Bandung and I'm sure Bandung's condition formerly and now I different. BANDUNG! BANDUNG! Bandung is popular city in Indonesia. Bandung is capital of West Java Province. With the slogan: clean, green, and full of flowers. So that it is popular called PARIS VAN JAVA. Bandung which is surrounded by mountainous makes Bandung's weather is cool and fresh.

   Listen!
Bandung has jungles to additional income both for government and for people around jungles. Bandung has rice fields to help farmer plant rice as their stuffle diet. Bandung has clear river to life. Bandung has museums to collect and preserve things come from the past for their next generation. Bandung has zoo to protects many kinds of rare animals. Bandung has mode. Bandung has traditional activities. Bandung has traditional language. And Bandung has all other treasure. But that is formerly. Possibly, all can destroy.

   Ladies and gentlemen,

Have you known about Bandung's condition now? Bandung become dirty, pollution, bad weather city, dry city, or Bandung isn't PARIS VAN JAVA anymore. Formerly, the students from Malaysia come from their city to studying in Bandung. But now, the students from Bandung go to school in Malaysia.
Look! There are children in the main roads playing their musical instrument and sing a song who gets moneys from peoples who take a pity on their condition or maybe enjoy their music. They are children. They must go to school. How about How about their future? How about Bandung's future? How about Bandung's future? How about our next generation? Oh my God, Pertiwi is crying for Bandung.

    Why?

    Why?

Has Bandung been dead forever or maybe Bandung is sleeping now. If Bandung has been dead forever, let's make Bandung to be alive again. If Bandung has been sleeping, let's make Bandung to be get up again. Let's make Bandung to be the first and the best of the best.
Bandung is safe, prosperious, peaceful, cool, fragrant, clean, green, and full of flowers. Now let's think it in this moment. Do you like Bandung's former better than Bandung's condition now and BUILD IT UP in order to return to Bandung is former with in discipline, clean, and effort.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I think that's all for this moment, let's take the best and throw away the bad things in this forum, thank you for your attention, and I want to say sorry for my shortage. Let's "GET UP, GET UP, BANDUNG!"

NOte:
Penyesalan datangnya memang terakhir. Kalo didepan, bukan penyesalan namanya.

The impact of cigarette for our health

The impact of cigarette for our health

A cigarette is a tobacco that wrapped by typical paper. the typical paper is 5 cm long. the cigarette is dangerous to our health. the poison in the cigarette is used to punish someone to be dead (Hydrogen Cyanide), floor cleaner (ammonia), Urethane, paint cleaner (acceptone), industries dissolver (tolone), white ant poison (arsenic).

When you smoking, you suck more than 4.000 chemical substance included the poison from the material of cigarette lighter (butane), polonium 210, nicotine, tar, CO, mothballs, cadmium, and plastic substances. As in the composition of cigarette, we can make a conclusion that cigarette is dangerous for our health certainly.

Active smoker, passive smoker, and the non-smoking group generally recognize that cigarette is dangerous for our health. but, the cigarette is being an activity, and maybe tradition. it is dependence. Smoking being their own choices. although the doctor forbids to suck it, they still choose to take the risk. Whereas, that individual choice is damaging another person (passive smoker).

The last data showed that 419.000 people died in the USA every year because of lungs cancer, heart attack, dan the other kinds of disease. That is the consequence of smoking.

The smoke of cigarette which has been contaminated in the closed area being the main pollution resource. The particles that whiffed on a big amount make cancer's risk become faster. Commonly, the child easily to get ETS because their respiration line is smaller, and they breath faster. Besides that, they had small lungs area. there is a lot of diseases that appears to the child as a passive smoker. The child often suffering acute respiration diseases, like bronchitis or pneumonia. The child being easy to get asthma, lungs cancer and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrom).

The baby whose mother as an active smoker will easily get SIDS than a baby whose mother not smoking. Sids always being the cause of 1month-1year baby death.

The alternate and the best way to avoid the disease that appears because of the cigarette is to stop smoking and do not use tobacco in any way. However, our health is number one. Smoking is dangerous to our health. as the slogan, "prevent is better than cure our disease."

High School education system in Indonesia

I wrote this when I applied a scholarship to Sampoerna Foundation (2008). They required an essay. Haha . Unfortunately, they didn't give me the scholarship, because my English grammar is bad. Here it is:

I think, the high school education system in Indonesia is good. Government raises scores of SK (Graduation Standard) every year. However, I think if SK being the only one requirement to be graduated, that will make citizen get shocked and confused. How come, education experienced for twelve years are gambled in just three days of national exam. Yeah, the determination days. I believe government makes that new polìcy fundamentally for the good of the people, - to make people cleverer and ready to compete globally -.

Government raises the graduation score every year. I think they can do it if Indonesia has same education quality in every school. In fact, the education system in some areas of Indonesia is not same. The are a lot of SSI (Sekolah Standard International) in big cities. It is not fair. On the other hand, in small villages, students with less ability to access good education can't pass the exam because they had some difficulties to do the national exam. Morevoer, some of them were lack of confident. They did not come to do the national exams because they believe they can not do the national exam well. On the other hand, students in big cities said the exam was easy. I hope this condition will no longer exist in the future.

Well, Education is not a gift. It is the most powerful tool that needs to built and developed. Indonesian government have to spend more money to fund the educational program in Indonesia. Based on Al-Quran, there are 5 components of education: teacher (Allah), student(Muhammad SAW), support services and educational facilities (qalam), education system (iqra) and curriculum.
Those are significant things to provide education with better quality. It would be nice if before Indonesian government raises the graduation score, they repair the quality of education in rural areas first. Eventually, it will affect not only the education quality in Indonesia, but also its economy.
